Christmas Tree Decorating Ideas Silver And Gold
It's that time of year again! Time to bring out the Christmas decorations, turn on your favorite holiday music, and gather around the fireplace while admiring the bright lights of the tree. Isn't that the best part of having a Christmas tree? The twinkling lights create the most beautiful ambience that make me wish we could keep it up all year long.

Tree Decorating Ideas
While I loved my flocked trees the last two years, this time around I went with a Cashmere
Jasper Fir. To me this tree is a beautiful option between classic green and a flocked tree. The tips have a soft look that appear almost frosted. You can also find a tutorial on how to flock a Christmas tree HERE .
When decorating a tree, I try to add a lot of texture using different picks, garlands and styles of ornaments. My tip is to find ornaments that complement each other but really stand out. I used a mixture of gold, silver, white, metal and glitter ornaments in various sizes that provide a unique element to the tree.
If you look closely you can see that I've used a beaded garland and two-tone glitter ribbon. I couldn't decide so I went with both. The first step was to layer multiple beaded garlands around the tree before decorating with ornaments. The last step was to drape the ribbon in sections down the tree.
Can you believe this pine cone ornament is handmade? The tree is covered with them and I couldn't be happier with how they turned out. I have a tutorial coming up on how to make your own.

How to decorate a Christmas tree
- Start with a theme or color scheme. Think of your favorite Christmas colors or themes and find items that match. For example; classic red and white for a peppermint theme tree, silver and gold Christmas trees are always beautiful, bright & colorful, neutral tones, silver and blue, woodsy animal theme, or an all-white winter wonderland theme.
- Optional: add extra light strands before decorating. This will help really brighten your tree, especially towards the trunk where trees can often have dark gaps.
- Place picks and berries throughout the tree in the direction of the branches. Towards the top you will want to have a few facing up to add height and dimension to your tree.
- Find large ornaments or items to add to your tree. This will help fill in empty spaces and naturally draw the eye to a pattern throughout the tree. Examples include signs, large stars, snowflakes, peppermint decorations, etc.
- If you are adding ribbon, find something that compliments your theme while adding texture. The ribbon can be added first or last, depending on your preference. There are multiple methods for adding ribbon, either by draping from top to bottom, wrapping around the tree, or using smaller sections to fold into the tree. The trick is to make sure your ribbon is tucked in to give it an effortless look.
- Use ornaments in multiple sizes. Again, using large ornaments helps fill in gaps in the tree and look beautiful in contrast to the smaller ornaments. Don't be afraid to add various shapes and designs. As long as the ornaments complement each other, the tree will look full and beautifully decorated.
- Find wrapping paper in coordinating colors to match your tree décor. Kraft paper is great for tree themes with neutral tones and can be decorated with glitter ribbon.
- Finish with a tree topper. A lit star, angel, and bow are most commonly used but don't be afraid to get creative. You can find the tutorial for how to make a bow with a Bowdabra HERE .
I would love to hear about your Christmas theme this year. Do you have classic ornaments you use every year or try new themes based on trends?
